Sri Lanka Representation at “Asian Tourism Fair 2011”

The Parjatan Bichitra and Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB), Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism jointly organized “Asian Tourism Fair” 2011which is one of the popular tourism fairs of the region held at Bangabadhu International Conference Centre from September 29th to October 01st 2011 with the view of focusing on the attractive tourist destinations in Asia. The Sri Lanka High Commission along with eleven (11) stakeholders such as the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Dilma Tea, Nawaloka Hospitals, ACE Aviation (travels), Guardian Travels and five other tourism operating agents participated in the Asian Tourism Fair 2011.

Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism in Bangladesh  Ghulam Muhammed Quader inaugurated the Asian Tourism Fair and also took part in the opening of the Sri Lanka High Commission’s stall by lightning the traditional oil lamp. While addressing as a special guest at the inaugural ceremony, the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka highlighted the importance of promotion of the regional tourism.

Adding glamour to the event, on the inaugural day’s night thirteen member troupe of girls from the Sri Lankan expatriate community in Bangladesh performed a cultural show which consisted of nine (09) items of Sri Lankan traditional dances in presence of a huge gathering of viewers.

The Asian Tourism Fair gave a golden opportunity for Sri Lanka to open the gates to explore the avenues and opportunities available in trade, investments and tourism between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan stakeholders who participated in the event held meetings/discussions successfully with their counterparts/clients for initiation of new ventures on tourism such as medical and educational tourism in Sri Lanka.
