Indian Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh will arrive in the country today for a three day visit which will include meetings with President Mahinda Rajapaksa, External Affairs Minister G. L. Peiris and Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa.
During his visit the Minister is likely to engage with Sri Lankan leaders and facilitate the signing of an agreement between the New Delhi-based Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) and the Laxman Kadirgamar Institute for International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKI-IRSS).

He will deliver the keynote address tomorrow at the Seminar on Poverty Alleviation, jointly hosted by the two Institutes at the LKIIRSS. His meeting with the President is also scheduled for tomorrow.

RIS, an autonomous think-tank under the Indian External Affairs Ministry, is an organisation that specialises in policy research on international economic issues and development cooperation. Colombo-based LKIIRSS is a multi-disciplinary research forum dedicated to analysing Sri Lanka’s strategic interests in the realm of international relations, within the contemporary domestic and global contexts.
