71st Anniversary of Independence celebrated in Kabul

The 71st anniversary of Independence was celebrated in Afghanistan on 4th February 2019 at Kabul Sarena Hotel.  Hon. Dr. Nadir Ahmad Andisha, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.  Twenty-five Ambassadors resident in Kabul also graced the event along with Sri Lanka Expatriate community living in Afghanistan with INGOs and Afghan government officials.

The National Anthems of both Sri Lanka and Afghanistan were played in addition to observing a minutes’ silent to remember war heroes and others who sacrificed their lives for independence.  The messages of H.E. the President, Hon Prime Minister and Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs were conveyed to the gathering.  Ambassador delivered his remarks on the importance of bilateral relations between two countries with emphasis on operationalization of the agreement/MOUs.  The Chief guest delivered a speech focusing on Straightening of bilateral cooperation to a higher level.  The promotional materials on trade and tourism were showcased. Tea and lapel pin with two national flags were given away to each participant. The refreshment in Sri Lankan Style was offered to all the participants.
