67th Independence Day Celebration, Manama

 

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Manama celebrated the 67th Independence Day with the participation of Sri Lankan community and friends of Sri Lanka in Bahrain as well as representatives of prominent business and academia on 4th February 2015 at the Embassy premises.

The official ceremony commenced with National Flag being hoisted by Mrs. A E Nilanthini, Charge d’ Affairs amidst the beating of 'Magul Bera' followed by the recital of the National Anthem a choir comprising young men and women of Sri Lankan community. Lighting of oil lamp was performed in keeping with the age old Sri Lankan traditions. Religious observances by dignitaries of Buddhist, Hindu Christian and Islamic faiths were conducted invoking blessings on Sri Lanka and its people.

Two-minute silence was observed in honor of all those who sacrifice their precious lives in the unity of Sri Lanka. The National Day messages of H.E. the President, Hon. Prime Minister and Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs were read out in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages respectively.

The audience was entertained with a special performance of patriotic songs by a group of community members. Addressing the occasion Charge d’ Affairs highlighted the significance of the Independence Day and emphasized the important role of expatriates invited to put their heart and soul together to make Sri Lanka a prosperous nation.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, nearly 200 Sri Lankans who were present at the event invited to enjoy Sri Lankan traditional refreshments.
