The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles commenced work on the first working day of 2019 on 2 January by hoisting the National Flag, singing the National Anthem and affirming the Oath of the Public Servants by all staff. A two minutes’ silence was observed to commemorate the members of the armed forces and all others who sacrificed their lives on behalf of the motherland.
The Consul General Mrs. Swarna Gunaratne made brief remarks and reiterated the importance of all the staff working diligently to accomplish the Government’s vision and achieve the goals of the year 2019. She outlined the projects for next six months and requested continued support from the staff towards the success of implementing them. The Consul General thanked the staff for all the support extended to her to make 2018 as a remarkable year for the Consulate in Los Angeles.
Newly appointed Deputy Consul General for Commerce explained the importance of five key principles of public relations the staff should practise when dealing with the public with mercy, patience, tactfulness, listening to other ideas and self-actualizations. He also highlighted in his speech, that especially as Government officers, we all have a great obligation towards our mother country to make a substantial contribution for the betterment of lives of fellow citizens of Sri Lanka.
The staff were treated with traditional refreshments.
