From 15 to 17 November this year, Sri Lanka will host the 2013 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). The choice of each CHOGM venue is a collective decision taken by Commonwealth leaders.
At the 2007 CHOGM in Kampala, Uganda, Heads took note of the offer from the President of Sri Lanka for his country to host CHOGM.

In a strongly worded rejection of the resolution on Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council, President’s Special Envoy on Human Rights Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said that the resolution was clearly unacceptable due to its inherent flaws.

The government yesterday said the US- sponsored resolution against Sri Lanka at the UNHRC sessions in Geneva could not achieve anything positive except to spread hatred, distrust and violence among South Asian nations.
