Sri Lanka Embassy in Kathmandu Hosts Vesak Dansal to Commemorate Vesak Day

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kathmandu, in collaboration with the Sri Lankan community in Nepal, successfully organized a Dansal program on 13 May 2025 at the Embassy premises to mark Vesak Day.

In celebration of this sacred occasion, the Embassy premises were beautifully decorated with traditional Vesak lanterns, Buddhist flags and colorful light bulbs, creating a vibrant and spiritually uplifting atmosphere that welcomed all visitors.

The event commenced with a serene religious observance, featuring offerings to the Lord Buddha, the observance of Pansil and sermons delivered by Buddhist monks. Prior to the commencement of the Dansal, alms were respectfully offered to the Sangha in keeping with traditional Buddhist customs.

The Dansal provided a variety of Sri Lankan delicacies, including tempered chickpeas, Sri Lankan soft drinks, biscuits and ice cream to all passers-by. The atmosphere was enriched with the sounds of traditional Sri Lankan Buddhist devotional songs, creating a cultural and spiritual ambiance throughout the event.

The program witnessed overwhelming participation and heartfelt appreciation, serving food to approximately 800 individuals. The event was further graced by the presence of representatives from Embassies, the United Nations and other international organizations.
