Hon. Arun Hemachandra was sworn in as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment on 21 November 2024. Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra is a Member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka representing the Trincomalee District. He plays a prominent leadership role within the National People’s Power (NPP) movement as a Member of its National Executive Committee. He also serves as the District Organizer for Trincomalee under the National Intellectual Organization and as the District Leader for Trincomalee of the People’s Liberation Front (JVP). In addition, he holds the position of Chairman of the Trincomalee District Coordination Committee. He is further a Member of the National Committee of the Socialist Youth Union and the Convener of the Eastern People’s Voice. Deputy Minister Hemachandra holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biology from Angeles University Foundation, Philippines, a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of London. In his public service career, Deputy Minister Hemachandra is committed to strengthening Sri Lanka’s foreign relations, promoting ethical and productive foreign employment, and safeguarding the rights and welfare of Sri Lankan migrant workers, while contributing to inclusive governance and sustainable national development.
