Ambassador Sisira Senavirathne held discussions with Chairman and Board of Directors of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, Ahmed El-Wakeel, on 05 April 2026 at the Chamber premises in Alexandria, focusing on opportunities to enhance bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and Egypt
Emphasizing the longstanding relations between Sri Lanka and Egypt across a range of sectors, including trade and the economy, the Ambassador briefed the Chairman and members of the Executive Board of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce on the diverse opportunities available to further develop bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation, and sought Chamber’s support in advancing these relations through enhanced partnerships and business-to-business engagements. The chamber delegation was comprehensively briefed about Sri Lanka Expo 2026, a premier trade and investment forum scheduled to be held in Colombo, and the Ambassador extended an invitation to the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce to send a delegation to participate in the event, with a view to exploring potential business partnerships.
The Chairman underscored the Chamber’s strategic focus on expanding global trade and investment opportunities for its members, while reaffirming his commitment to strengthening and broadening trade, business, and economic ties with Sri Lanka, noting the long history of commercial engagement between the two countries. The Chairman further expressed keen interest in enhancing cooperation in key sectors through initiatives of business-to-business meetings, exchange of trade delegations, and closer collaboration between chambers in both countries. The Chamber also assured its support in promoting Sri Lanka Expo 2026 among its membership and possibility of organizing a delegation to attend the event.
The meeting was attended by members of the Board of Directors of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, Vice Chairman, Ahmed Mohamed Sakr, Treasurer & Executive Board member, Dr. Yasser Elmanawishy, Board member, Elbedeiwy Elsayed, Board member, Sherif ElGuizeiry and Board member, Nabil AboHamda. The Ambassador was accompanied by Second Secretary, Darshika Dasanayake, and Trade Assistant, Omar Harmdy representing the Mission.
