
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Myanmar, Prabashini Ponnamperuma had meetings with Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations of Myanmar, Dr. Wah Wah Maung, on 10 March 2026 and, the Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, U Than Swe, on 11 March 2026, in Nay Pyi Taw, the administrative capital of Myanmar. The main focus of the discussions was based on promotion and improvement of economic activities between the two countries.
The discussions with Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Dr. Wah Wah Maung were mainly based on furthering the cooperation between the two countries, including in trade, and investment sectors. Accordingly, the means to enhance economic relations were discussed. Senior officials from the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations of Myanmar also attended the meeting.
At the meeting with the Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, U Than Swe, bilaterally important matters relevant to Sri Lanka and Myanmar, including collaboration in the sectors of trade, agriculture, services and other economically important areas were discussed, in addition to religious and cultural cooperation.
The Ambassador also made the meetings an opportunity to convey thanks and appreciation to the Government of Myanmar for the assistance given in the rescue and repatriation of Sri Lankans, who were detained in the illegal scam centers in Myawaddy, Myanmar, including the most recent repatriations. Senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including the Director General of Political Affairs, were also attended the meeting.
