
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador Sisira Senaviarthne, presented credentials to President Mohamed Al Menfi, of the State of Libya, at the formal ceremony held at the Abu Sitta Palace in Tripoli on 17 January 2026.
The Sri Lankan Ambassador was ceremonially escorted to the Abu Sitta Palace with military honors for the presentation of credentials, and following the formalities, the Ambassador was granted an official audience with the President of the State of Libya.
In congratulating the Ambassador, President Al Menfi recalled the long-standing friendly relations between Sri Lanka and Libya and expressed his strong interest in further strengthening bilateral cooperation. He also underscored the importance of mutual support in international fora for the shared benefit of both countries. The President briefed on ongoing development initiatives in Libya across various sectors and conveyed Libya’s keen interest in building closer cooperation and partnerships with Asian countries, including Sri Lanka, in areas such as trade, commerce, and labor, for mutual benefit.
Ambassador Senavirathne conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of President Anura Kumara Disanayaka to President Al Menfi and reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation into new areas, including bilateral engagement, culture, trade, and investment, for the mutual benefit of both countries. Sri Lanka’s Envoy also outlined the new development initiatives being undertaken to accelerate Sri Lanka’s development under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Disanayaka.
On the sidelines of the credential presentation ceremony, Ambassador Senavirathne met with Ambassador Elhassan Mohammed Rabha, Head of Asian and Australian Affairs Department of the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and held discussions on a range of issues aimed at further enhancing and strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
