
Ambassador Sisira Senavirathne met President of Egypt’s General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), Houssam Heiba on 17 September 2025, at the Ministry of Investment to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral trade and investment relations between the two countries.
Highlighting the long-standing friendly relations between Sri Lanka and Egypt across multiple sectors, including trade, Ambassador Sisira Senavirathne highlighted Sri Lanka’s vast potential for foreign direct investment and invited Egyptian investors to partner in key areas such as IT industries, maritime services, boat building, agriculture, tourism, and specially the Colombo Port City project. The President of GAFI commended Sri Lanka’s resilient economic recovery and reaffirmed Egypt’s willingness to work towards strengthening bilateral trade and investment promotion. He also expressed readiness to share Egypt’s experience in managing free zones and to foster cooperation through technical and industrial parks as well as the SMEs sectors. The discussions further focused on plans for trade delegations and enhancing collaboration between trade chambers of both countries in their respective fields.
Ambassador Senavirathne extended an invitation to the Chairman of GAFI to visit Sri Lanka for major trade and investment events, including the Voyage Sri Lanka 2025, Sri Lanka Economic and Investment Summit, which will showcase the country’s vast potential for foreign direct investment across diverse sectors. The Ambassador and the GAFI Chairman underscored the importance of encouraging companies and businesses from both nations to participate in trade and investment fairs in order to consolidate business prospects, deepen commercial ties, and create new investment opportunities.
