A series of religious activities were organized by the Sri Lanka Embassy in Jordan to celebrate Vesak 2025 under the spiritual guidance of Senior Lecturer at the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, Venerable Raluwe Padmasiri Thero. This year’s Vesak festival was made more attractive by the visit of a Buddhist Monk to Jordan after several years.
As part of the celebrations, almsgiving for the Venerable Padmasiri Thero was offered at the Ambassador’s official residence on 10 May 2025, with the participation of the Ambassador of Thailand to Jordan Supark Prongthura, his spouse, and the staff of both Thai and Sri Lankan Embassies.
In addition, the main event of the celebrations at the Embassy premises on 12 May 2025 commenced with the observances of Buddhist religious rituals, including offering Buddha Puja and chanting pirith by Venerable Padmasiri Thero. The Dhamma sermon, discussion and meditation program were conducted by the Thero during the Atasil program.
Twenty-seven Sri Lankan children in Jordan participated in a Vesak Lantern competition organized by the Embassy. The three winning lanterns were awarded prizes, and all participants received certificates of appreciation.
A Dansala organized by Trico International and Sri Lankan well-wishers in Jordan was kept open till night to provide dinner for all present. The event was attended by over 450 participants, including Embassy staff and their families, the Sri Lankan community, and foreign nationals practicing Buddhism.
