Sri Lanka strengthens relations with National Confederation of Industry of Brazil

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Brazil, C.A. Chaminda I. Colonne, recently had discussion with the Head of the International Relations of National Confederation of Industry (CNI) of Brazil Frederico Lamego at the headquarters of the CNI in Brasilia.

CNI is the leading confederative system representing Brazilian industry, composed of the CNI, its 27 state-level industry federations (one in each Brazilian state), affiliated industrial unions, and the Industry System, which includes National Service for Industrial Training (SENAI), Social Service of Industry (SESI), and Euvaldo Lodi Institute (IEL). CNI plays a central role in promoting public policies, innovation, and industrial competitiveness in Brazil.

While elaborating on Sri Lanka´s export basket, Ambassador Chaminda Colonne requested CNI’s support in facilitating connections between Brazilian and Sri Lankan entrepreneurs, particularly through participation in the Sri Lanka Expo 2026. Further, Ambassdor presented Port City Colombo as a major investment hub where there are vibrant opportunities for Brazilian investors in the South Asia region.

Head of the International Relations Frederico Lamego was enthusiastic about opportunities available for cooperation between CNI and Sri Lanka and explained in detail on the CNI´s scope as well as on vocational training facilities officered by its Confederation.

Both discussed on the Sri Lanka’s potential role as a logistics and business hub between East and West and agreed to seek the possibility of establishing an agreement or Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CNI and its counterpart institution in Sri Lanka.

Specialist in Industrial and Policy Affairs II, Edgar Vieira Inácio of CNI; Minister Counsellor (Commercial) of the Embassy of Sri Lanka, Chathurika Perera joined the meeting.
