
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington, D.C. took part in the 'Winternational Embassy Showcase' 2025, on 9 December 2024 held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.
The annual 'Winternational', now in its twelfth consecutive year, serves as a distinguished platform for embassies based in Washington, D.C., to showcase their cultural, culinary, and artistic heritage, as well as travel and tourism opportunities for U.S. citizens and the diplomatic community. This year's event featured participation from 69 embassies and attracted approximately 8,000 attendees.
This year the Embassy concentrated on showcasing the resurgence of Sri Lanka's tourism sector following the destructive Cyclonic Storm Ditwah, while emphasizing the restoration of normalcy in tourism activities. Videos centered on tourism were displayed, highlighting the country's beaches, mountain landscapes, and other tourist attractions, thereby reaffirming Sri Lanka's status as a leading travel destination in South Asia. The Embassy booth featured a variety of products, including Ceylon tea, local handicrafts, gift items, and traditional crafts, which exemplified the island's cultural heritage. Visitors to the Sri Lankan booth were offered popular Sri Lankan snacks and a fresh cup of Ceylon tea. The Embassy booth attracted considerable attention from US attendees, with vibrant displays and comprehensive presentations piquing the interest of many, thereby encouraging further exploration of Sri Lanka's cultural heritage, scenic beauty, and diverse travel experiences.
