The 78th Anniversary of Independence of Sri Lanka was officially celebrated on 4th February 2026 at the Embassy premises with the participation of members of the Sri Lankan community in Jordan.

The celebrations commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by Chargé d'Affaires a.i., Gajithra Navan, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. A two-minute silence was observed in remembrance and honour of all patriots who sacrificed their lives for the motherland.

After that, the lighting of the traditional oil lamp took place with the participation of Chargé d'Affaires a.i. and community representatives, which was followed by multi-religious observances representing Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity, invoking blessings for the country and all Sri Lankans. Following the religious observances, the Independence Day Messages of the President, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism were read out in Sinhala, Tamil, and English.

Addressing the gathering, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. extended warm greetings to the Sri Lankan community in Jordan and highlighted the significance of Independence Day. She praised the invaluable contribution of Sri Lankan migrant workers to the socio-economic development of Sri Lanka and expressed appreciation to the community in Jordan for their continued support to the motherland, particularly through remittances to strengthen the national economy.
