The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Ha Noi commemorated the 78th Independence Day of Sri Lanka on 4 February 2026, bringing together Vietnamese dignitaries, government officials, representatives from various sectors, and members of the Sri Lankan community in Viet Nam.
The celebrations commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag of Sri Lanka, accompanied by traditional Magul Bera (Sri Lankan ceremonial drums), followed by the National Anthems of Sri Lanka and Viet Nam. Multi-religious observances, including Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, and Catholic prayers, were conducted, reflecting Sri Lanka’s rich cultural diversity and long-standing commitment to interfaith harmony.
In his address, Ambassador Poshitha Perera marked the 56th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Viet Nam, underscoring the deep-rooted friendship between the two countries and the expanding opportunities for cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
The Ambassador extended an invitation to Vietnamese partners and the business community to participate in Sri Lanka Expo 2026, a premier platform connecting international buyers with Sri Lankan exporters. He also highlighted Sri Lanka’s tourism potential, emphasizing its diverse offerings, including cultural and religious heritage sites, nature-based attractions, and coastal tourism, with a view to promoting two-way tourist flows and strengthening people-to-people links.
Adding a strong cultural dimension to the celebrations, the Embassy organized a photo exhibition showcasing Sri Lanka’s scenic landscapes and major tourist attractions. Guests were also treated to an authentic Sri Lankan culinary experience, with traditional Sri Lankan dishes served alongside a live cooking demonstration of the famous Sri Lankan street food “Kottu,” which attracted considerable interest and appreciation from attendees.
The 78th Independence Day celebrations reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to further deepening its relations with Viet Nam and reflected the shared aspirations of both countries to enhance cooperation in the years ahead.
