
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Brazil, C.A. Chaminda I. Colonne recently paid courtesy call on Acting Director of Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), Ambassador Maria Luiza Lopes da Silva, at the ABC Headquarters in Brasilia.
Ambassador Colonne provided a detailed briefing on current emergency situation in Sri Lanka and made a strong request for obtaining humanitarian assistance from ABC, the aid arm of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil.
Ambassador Luiza conveyed her heartfelt condolences on the damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah and confirmed that ABC will provide 10 units of water purifiers with higher capacity, manufactured in Brazil. These units could be operated using solar panels, batteries or conventional power supply. Ambassador Colonne expressed profound gratitude for extending this timely support to the people of Sri Lanka during this difficult moment.
Following a comprehensive discussion on the arrangements being made by ABC for the emergency situation in Sri Lanka, both discussed in detail the potential areas for further ABC assistance for sharing technical know-how on family agriculture, school feeding programs, vocational training and other related fields, in addition to the agreed ABC technical assistance for Dairy farming and sugarcane industries in Sri Lanka.
The meeting was attended by Head of the Division of India and South Asia, Minister André Saboia Martins; General Coordinator of Humanitarian Cooperation, Minister José Solla Vazquez Junior; Deputy Head of the Division of India and South Asia, Andrea Flores Nepomuceno; First Secretary of General Coordination of Humanitarian Cooperation, Alexander Botovchenco Rivera; Coordinator of the Technical Cooperation - Africa, Asia, Oceania and Middle East, Antonio Junqueira, and Minister Counsellor (Commercial) Chathurika Perera from the Mission.
