Seychelles Stands in Solidarity with Sri Lanka: Launch of National Humanitarian Appeal

Seychelles has launched a national humanitarian appeal to support Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the devastating cyclone Ditwah that recently struck the island nation. This appeal, aimed at mobilizing donations from citizens, businesses, and international partners, was officially introduced during a joint briefing led by the Minister for Local Government and Inner Islands, Eveline Rose.

The briefing, held on 12 December 2025, was attended by the Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Seychelles, Manisha P. Perera, government officials, humanitarian partners, and representatives from the Sri Lanka-Seychelles Friendship Association.

In her remarks, Minister Eveline Rose emphasized the importance of solidarity and the desire of Seychelles to assist in rebuilding Sri Lanka after the severe destruction caused by the cyclone. She noted that the Government of Seychelles, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, is working closely with various organizations including the Sri Lankan Association of Seychelles, the Red Cross Society of Seychelles, Air Seychelles, and the Retailers Association, to coordinate this national appeal.

A significant announcement came from the representative of Air Seychelles, the national carrier, who confirmed that the airline would assist in transporting donations directly to Colombo. In addition to its weekly flights to Colombo, Air Seychelles has offered to operate extra shipments, should the volume of donations warrant additional airfreight capacity.

Chairman of the Sri Lanka-Seychelles Friendship Association, Chamika Ariyasinghe shared details of the fundraising and donation collection activities. The Ministry of Local Government and Inner Islands has organized a system to collect material donations at regional levels across Seychelles, making it easier for the public to contribute.

In response to the humanitarian appeal, the Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka,      Manisha P. Perera, expressed deep gratitude to the Government of Seychelles and the people of Seychelles for their unwavering support during this difficult time. She praised the swift and coordinated efforts, which demonstrate the strength of the friendship between the two nations.
