Presentation of Credentials to Bulgaria

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Poland and accredited to Bulgaria, Priyangika Dharmasena, presented credentials to President Rumen Radev, on 06 June 2025 at the Presidential Palace in Sofia in Bulgaria. During the audience with the President, Ambassador Dharmasena conveyed the best wishes of the President, Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the Government of Sri Lanka for the welfare and prosperity of Bulgaria and expressed her commitment to enhance bilateral relations with Bulgaria. President Radev, while warmly welcoming the new Ambassador, assured the support of Bulgaria in furthering the existing cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Dharmasena also met with high officials of the Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency and the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry during her visit and discussed with the authorities for furtherance of economic cooperation between the two countries, especially in trade and investment as it needs to be improved compared to economic activity of both countries with other global partners. Ambassador proposed for trade and investment webinars as well as a business delegation to visit Sri Lanka, in the near future, to propel economic cooperation between the two countries.  Also, noting the low level of Bulgarian tourists in the country compared to other countries from Europe, the Ambassador underscored the opportunities that lie for Bulgarian tourists and businessmen in the tourism sector and invited them to visit Sri Lanka. The IT sector of Sri Lanka was also briefed to them and encouraged the participation of Bulgaria at “Disrupt Asia” Conference, to be held in Sri Lanka in September 2025.

During her presentation of copies of credence to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolay  Pavlov, a  number of areas,  including economic and cultural cooperation, and mutual support for candidatures were discussed.

Ambassador Dharmasena also met with a segment of the Sri Lankan community in Bulgaria, which included IT professionals and medical students. The discussion mainly focused on encouraging the community to develop and establish contacts with other Sri Lankans in Bulgaria for their own benefit as well as that of Sri Lanka, and to form a Sri Lankan Association. They were also urged to contribute to the country through the ‘Clean Sri Lanka” project, aiming to bring prosperity to the nation.

The Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Bulgaria, Borislav Sarandev also accompanied the Ambassador during her visit in Sofia.
