
The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York transferred over US$ 140,000 (approximately LKR 44,00,000.00) donated by members of the Sri Lankan community in the New York Tri-State area, business entities, and well–wishers to the ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund.
In response to a request made by the Permanent Mission, Sri Lankans living in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, religious, business and community organizations, including the New York Buddhist Vihara, Sri Lanka Catholic Community, Islamic Centre of New Rochelle, TASMINA Inc., Isipathana OBA North America, The Serendipity Network, and Air Sea Land Group of Companies, contributed monetary donations, to the Mission which were duly transferred to support rebuilding efforts following the damages caused by Cyclone Ditwah in November 2025.
In addition to contributions made through the Permanent Mission, many Sri Lankans and religious, business and community organizations, including the Staten Island Buddhist Vihara and the Royal College Old Boys’ East Coast Foundation, donated funds directly to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and implemented several projects to address the humanitarian needs of the affecting communities.
Further, the Government of Algeria, through the Permanent Mission of Algeria in New York, made a monetary contribution to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. The Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations Jayantha Jayasuriya, met the Permanent Representative of Algeria, conveyed appreciation for the contribution and briefed on Government’s recovery efforts.
The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York extends its gratitude to all the donors for their generous support toward Sri Lanka’s ongoing recovery efforts.
