The 78 th Anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka was celebrated at the Representative Office of Sri Lanka in Ramallah under the patronage of Acting Representative of Sri Lanka to Ramallah, S. R. Mahinda Kumar, on 04 th February 2026. The event was held at the office premises in the participation of Sri Lankan in Palestine. The Mayor of Beitunia, former Mayors, President and Members of Palestine Sri Lanka Friendship Association, Dawath Society Association, Military Sports Association, Chamber of Commerce, Palestine Driving Licence Association, Tour Operators, Journalist and Writers.
The celebrations commenced with the hoisting of the national flag by Acting Representative, S. R. Mahinda Kumar, followed by the singing of the national anthem and the lighting of the oil lamp. A two-minute silence was observed in remembrance and honour of all patriots who sacrificed their lives for the motherland.
Following the religious observances, presented by Sheikh Rafat, the Independence Day messages of President, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka were read out by the staff of the Post.
Addressing the gathering, the Acting Representative highlighted Sri Lanka’scommitment to strengthening bilateral relations in all spheres including trade, tourism, investment and cultural. He also expressed the friendly relations between the two countries and wishes for the continuation of the present ceasefire agreement.
The event also featured a presentation on the Sri Lanka Tourism promotion on the “ A Thriving Nation- A Beautiful Life” initiative, presenting the audience an overview of the government’s vision and mission.
