The newly appointed Ambassador-Designate of Sri Lanka to the Federative Republic of Brazil, C.A. Chaminda I. Colonne, officially assumed duties at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brasília on 16 October 2025.
The assumption of duties commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag, singing both national anthems of Sri Lanka and Brazil, religious observances, lighting oil lamp, followed by a formal address by the Ambassador-Designate Colonne to the Embassy staff. In her address Ambassador-Designate Colonne underscored the priorities of the new government, particularly its focus on economic diplomacy. She stressed the vital importance of enhancing bilateral trade relations with Brazil, as well as with all nine (09) other countries concurrently accredited to the Sri Lanka Embassy in Brazil, especially in the current context of Sri Lanka’s economic recovery.
In addition to economic diplomacy, she also highlighted the need to strengthen political and cultural diplomacy with Latin American nations, recognizing their growing global significance and the potential for deepened collaboration in various sectors.
Ambassador-Designate Colonne is a senior career diplomat of the Sri Lanka Foreign Service (Grade I), who joined the service in 1998.
