High Commissioner meets Senior Officials of the Senate of Pakistan

The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Pakistan, Rear Admiral Fred Seneviratne, met with the Advisor to the Chairman Senate of Pakistan on Friendship Groups and Focal Person to the Inter- Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference, Misbah Khar and Senior Director General, Senate of Pakistan, Tarik Bin Waheed on 26 August 2025 at the High Commission premises in Islamabad.

The High Commissioner extended a warm welcome to the representatives from the Senate of Pakistan and expressed his appreciation for the invitation extended to the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka to attend the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) as a state guest, to be held on 11 and 12 November 2025. The High Commissioner provided an overview of the Sri Lankan Parliamentary system, its functions, and the ongoing collaboration between the two nations through the Parliamentary Friendship Association. He also shared insights into Sri Lanka’s recent developments, particularly the government’s efforts toward building a corruption-free and clean nation. He reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest during his tenure in Pakistan.

During the discussion, the Advisor to the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan extended her congratulations to the High Commissioner on his new assignment as the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Pakistan. She further explained that the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) is an intergovernmental, inter-parliamentary, and multilateral organization. Its objectives include building global unity, strengthening peace, and promoting shared prosperity through inter-parliamentary dialogue, mutual understanding, and parliamentary diplomacy across regions. The ISC’s growing diplomatic influence has significantly contributed to fostering peace, cooperation, and people-centered policy exchange among member parliaments.

The Senior Director General of the Senate of Pakistan highlighted that the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference was constituted in Seoul, South Korea, in April 2025, under the visionary leadership of the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan. He emphasized that the theme of the upcoming conference is ‘Peace, Security, and Development’, reflecting the urgent need for global cooperation in today’s complex geopolitical environment.

In response, the High Commissioner assured that the invitation and the importance of the conference would be duly conveyed to the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.

Minister of the High Commission A Christy Ruban was also present at the meeting.
