
The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore ceremonially commenced work for the year 2026 on Thursday, 1 January 2026, in keeping with government directives on the commencement of duties of public institutions for the New Year.
A Pirith chanting ceremony was conducted at the Chancery by the Venerable Monks of the Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple in Singapore, led by Chief Monk Venerable K. Rathanananda Nayaka Thero.
The official proceedings commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag and the singing of the National Anthem, followed by the observance of a two-minute silence in remembrance of the members of the Tri-Forces and others who sacrificed their lives for the motherland.
The staff of the Mission took oaths of the Public Service, reaffirming their commitment to uphold unity, accountability and resilient in the face of challenge, through the vision “a thriving country and beautiful life” while performing the entrusted roles efficiently and productively.
Addressing the staff, High Commissioner Senarath Dissanayake emphasized the importance of an integrated, citizen-centered, and results-oriented public service, particularly at a time when Sri Lanka is navigating recovery and rebuilt following cyclone Ditwah. He highlighted the need for motivation, teamwork, and professionalism at the outset of 2026 to meet emerging challenges.
The ceremony concluded with traditional breakfast to mark the dawn of the New Year.
