The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Germany, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), hosted a tourism networking event titled “Experience the Spirit of Sri Lanka in Berlin” at the Embassy premises in celebration of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
The event brought together German journalists, media representatives and influencers with the objective of showcasing Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage and promoting Sri Lanka as a unique travel destination.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp and the ceremonial boiling of milk, symbolizing prosperity and new beginnings, followed by the welcome address delivered by the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy, Thivanka Athuraliya.
Guests were invited to experience authentic Sri Lankan New Year traditions through a range of interactive activities and traditional games. A live tea station and a traditional delicacies station provided participants the opportunity to witness the preparation and presentation of traditional Sri Lankan delicacies. Colourful cultural performances and traditional decorations further added to the festive atmosphere, while an array of Sri Lankan New Year delicacies was served to the guests.
The event formed part of the ongoing joint efforts of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Germany and the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) to promote Sri Lanka as a preferred travel destination in Germany, which remains one of Sri Lanka’s most sustained tourism source markets, traditionally ranking among the top five.
