Embassy of Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi hosts Iftar in celebration of the holy Month of Ramadan

In commemoration of the holy month of Ramadan, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi hosted an Iftar for the Sri Lankan community residing in the UAE on 15 March 2025 at the Embassy premises. The event, held under the theme “Unity Beyond Borders; Peace Without Limit,” was attended by approximately 350 community members representing Sri Lankan Muslims as well as Buddhists, Hindus, and Catholics, highlighting the spirit of harmony and mutual respect among all ethnic and religious groups.

During the religious observances, a Sri Lankan scholar residing in Abu Dhabi, Ash-Sheikh Mohamed Shafraz Maharoofdeen emphasized the significance of hosting Iftar events during Ramadan. The gathering also featured remarks from Ven. Pitakotte Garawamagga Thero, Rev. Fr. Nayagam Roy Clarence, and Mr. Devanand Mahadeva, who shared their insights on self-discipline and inner transformation, underscoring the importance of spiritual growth during this sacred month.

The event culminated with the breaking of the fast, followed by a traditional Sri Lankan Iftar dinner, offering a selection of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine and fostering an atmosphere of unity and cultural exchange.

In addition to the exclusive Iftar hosted by the Embassy, the Sri Lankan Muslim community in Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with the Embassy organized weekly Iftar gatherings every Saturday throughout the month of Ramadan, enhancing the shared bonds among all ethnic and religious groups in the UAE.
