
The Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka together with Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), organised a traditional dance performance commemorating the 78th National Independence Day of Sri Lanka. The Independence Celebration was held at the Auditorium of Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.
The Chief Guest was Sun Xueqing, Vice President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the celebration was held at the CPAFFC Auditorium.
Vice President Sun Xueqing recalled the close ties between China and Sri Lanka while emphasizing that China and Sri Lanka have always stood together through thick and thin and forged ahead hand in hand, setting a fine example of countries of different sizes treating each other a equals and co-existing in friendship.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Majintha Jayesinghe stated that the 78th Anniversary of Independence is a momentous milestone in Sri Lanka's history, which is also intertwined with the celebration of the unique and ever enduring friendship between Sri Lanka and China that span many centuries. The Ambassador went on to state that ever since our two ancient civilizations had established contacts, high-level exchanges, understanding, goodwill and ties have embellished our friendship and cordial relations notwithstanding the passage of time.
The Sri Lankan Ambassador also extended sincere appreciation to the CPAFFC for its longstanding support and invaluable contribution to the development of Sri Lanka–China relations, which has left a indelible imprint in the hearts of the Sri Lankan people. The Ambassador also reiterated that cultural diplomacy continues to serve as a vital bridge connecting the two nations and their peoples while emphasizing the centuries old relations between the two countries.
As part of the Independence Day celebrations, guests enjoyed a mesmerizing traditional dance and drum performance by Kalasuri Dr. Channa Wijewardena and his troupe captivating the audience.
The event was attended by the Diplomatic Corps., officials of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, officials of the Ministries and line agencies, Sri Lankan community, students of the BFSU Sinhala Language Department including friends of Sri Lanka, reflecting the strong people-to-people ties and enduring friendship between Sri Lanka and China.
The Embassy was able to promote the world renown Ceylon Tea and Sri Lanka cuisine at the celebrations.
