Consulate General of Sri Lanka Coordinates Financial Assistance and Relief for Victims of Ditwah Cyclone

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai commends the generous support extended by members of the Sri Lankan expatriate community, associations, corporate partners, and well-wishers, whose timely assistance has provided much-needed relief to families affected by the Ditwah Cyclone.

In response to urgent humanitarian needs, the Consulate General, in coordination with the Sri Lankan community in the UAE, charity organizations, and associations, facilitated the mobilization of financial assistance worth SLRS 42.9 million and the collection and dispatch of 35,000 kg of relief items, including dry rations, baby food, clothing, hygiene kits, and other essential goods.

A 40-foot container with dry rations and other supplies—including rice (10,953 kg), dhal (435 kg), atta flour (575 kg), sugar (50 kg), milk powder, tea, canned food, clothes, sanitary napkins, stationery, and shoes—was dispatched via FRICO Cargo. Additional consignments weighing around 6,000 kg were shipped through Emirates Sky Cargo and FitsAir Cargo. As of 12 December 2025, a total of 32,300 kg of relief items has been dispatched.

Financial contributions coordinated by the Consulate General include:

  • Sri Lanka Quantity Surveyors Association in the UAE: AED 100,000 (SLRS 8.4 MN)
  • Sri Lanka Professionals’ Association: AED 62,200 (SLRS 5.2 MN)
  • TRISTAR Company: AED 300,000 (SLRS 25 MN)
  • Jain SEVA Mission: USD 10,000 / AED 36,000 (SLRS 3 MN)
  • Individual contributions: AED 13,795 (SLRS 1.15 MN)

The Consul General of Sri Lanka to Dubai and Northern Emirates, Alexi Gunasekera, expressed gratitude to all contributors and reiterated the Consulate General’s commitment to coordinating humanitarian assistance efficiently and transparently, ensuring aid reaches those most in need.

FRICO Cargo, Emirates Airline, and FitsAir provided cargo facilities on a free-of-charge basis for the shipment of relief items. Their support enabled swift delivery of essential supplies, allowing local authorities and humanitarian agencies to respond effectively.

The Consulate General expresses deep appreciation to Emirates Airline, Air Arabia, and all partners for their humanitarian commitment and continued support, reflecting the strong and enduring relationship between Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates.
