The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Poland celebrated 78th Independence Day of Sri Lanka with the Sri Lankan Community at the Embassy premises. With the logo “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” illuminating the television screen in the background, the revered occasion commenced with the hoisting of the National flag of Sri Lanka by Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Poland, Priyangika Dharmasena, followed by the singing of the national anthem in both Sinhala and Tamil languages to reflect the multi-linguistic society of Sri Lanka. After lighting the traditional oil lamp by dignitaries, the spiritual ceremony was conducted, representing all faiths of Sri Lanka. Reading out the Independence Day messages of the President, the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister ensued. Ambassador Dharmasena in her address to the gathering, profusely spoke about the devastation caused by “Cyclone Ditwah” to its people and the nation. Referring to the “Rebuilding Sri Lanka programme” launched under the patronage of the President of Sri Lanka, Ambassador Dharmasena appealed, to support the “Rebuilding Sri Lanka Fund” through contributions and supporting varied projects to reconstruct the country to bring it back to normalcy. Ambassador Dharmasena’s speech also highlighted the activities performed by the Embassy in diverse areas in 2025, displayed through picture slides with the description in the English language, for the benefit some visitors in the gathering. At the end of the speech, Ambassador Dharmasena, invited the guests to watch the video on “Rebuilding Sri Lanka”, after which gifts were presented to those who assisted the Embassy, in making the event a success. The occasion ended with a sumptuous traditional Sri Lankan lunch been partaken by all present, while watching and listening to promotional videos on tourism, trade, culture and dance of Sri Lanka.
