Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Jordan, J.A.D.S. Priyangika Wijegunasekara paid a visit to Amman SOS Children's Village, a national non-profit social development organization on 25 March 2025. Established in 1983, Amman SOS Children's Village provides alternative care for children and youth who lack parental care in family and community houses in Amman.
During a meeting held with the National Director of the Association, Rana AlZoubi and the management of the association, Ambassador Wijegunasekara outlined the measures taken by the government of Sri Lanka to ensure a safe and nurturing environment for every child in the country. Moreover, the Ambassador briefed them on the recent amendments to the Children and Young Persons Ordinance of 1939 to protect their rights and welfare in par with the relevant international standards.
The Ambassador also toured the village to observe the services provided to the children and commended the association’s efforts in creating a safe environment for them.
