
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Brazil, C.A. Chaminda I. Colonne, recently met the Mayor of Santa Bárbara Municipality and the Vice-President of the Portal do Sertão Consortium of State of Bahia, Edifrancio De Jesus Oliveira and Executive Secretary of Portal Sertão Consortium of the State of Bahia, Ícaro Ivvin de Almeida Costa Lima at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Brasilia.
Ambassador Chaminda Colonne warmly welcomed the Mayor Edifrancio Oliveira and the Executive Secretary Ícaro Ivvin to the Embassy. Ambassador highlighted Sri Lanka’s new Government focus on enhancing economic diplomacy with the Latin American region and expressed the country’s interest in exploring opportunities to enhance sea-route connectivity, as well as potential investment prospects in the Colombo Port City Project in Sri Lanka.
The Mayor Edifrancio Oliveira agreed to take initiative by the Portal do Sertão Consortium of State of Bahia to identify Sri Lanka as a promising partner for exploring new avenues to strengthen the bilateral trade, economic cooperation and cultural ties. He highlighted that the Bahia Region is currently formulating plans to expand its international relations, particularly in the area of investment and economic development.
Both further outlined several key sectors which could strengthen trade relations including rubber products, gem & jewellery, tea, coconut-based products, machinery and electrical products. The Mayor Edifrancio Oliveira also looks forward in visiting Sri Lanka and explore new avenues of cooperation during “Sri Lanka Expo 2026”, a major international event scheduled to be held in June 2026.
The Mayor Edifrancio Oliveira extended an invitation to Ambassador Chaminda Colonne to visit Bahia Region, which she graciously accepted. Both sides agreed to continue discussions and jointly explore potential areas for further collaboration.
