Ambassador - designate to Cuba, Mahinda Ratnayake presented the open copy of the Letter of Credence to the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Anayansi Rodriguez Camejo, on 12 June 2025.
At a brief meeting held after the presentation of the open copies, the Vice Minister congratulated the Sri Lankan President for the comprehensive victory in the past Elections. The Vice Minister stated that Sri Lanka was one of the first Asian Countries to establish diplomatic relations with Cuba after the Cuban Revolution. She further added that Cuba is looking forward to consolidating the 66 years of bilateral relations for the mutual benefit of both countries. Vice Minister expressed her gratitude for the support Sri Lanka extended to Cuba in UNGA and other International Fora.
Ambassador, while thanking the Cuban Government for offering medical scholarships to Sri Lankan Students, emphasized that Sri Lanka is interested in further strengthening the trade, cultural and political relations with Cuba. The Ambassador added that he would primarily focus on these areas during his tenure.
