The Actg. Consul General of Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai, Shirani Ariyarathne participated at a roundtable discussion chaired by the Minister of Protocol and Marketing, Government of Maharashtra on 28 May 2025 at the Sahyadri Guest House, Mumbai.
The Principal Secretary of Cooperation and Marketing along with the officials of the Ministry and the Leaders/members of All India Association of Industries, World Trade Centre, Trans Asian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Indian Chamber of International Business, Indian Importers Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture attended the event.
The Actg. Consul General made a presentation on the potential trade and investment opportunities with Sri Lanka and had a fruitful discussion with the Minister, the Principal Secretary and the participants.
The theme of the discussion was “Growth Areas and New Opportunities for Bilateral Trade between India and Sri Lanka” with the purpose to explore possible opportunities in expanding trade and investment between participating chambers/members and local business community of Maharashtra.
During her discussion Actg. Consul General sought the Minister’s cooperation in several key areas, including facilitating market access for Sri Lankan exports, resolving trade issues, expediting customs clearance/sample checking processes, promoting trade missions from Maharashtra to Sri Lanka, strengthening cooperation/relations with Sri Lankan cities, encouraging Indian companies to participate in exhibitions held in Sri Lanka, supporting integration into the global value chain to utilize Sri Lankan products for India’s exports worldwide and promoting Indian investments in Sri Lanka.
The Minister expressed his keen interest in strengthening the bilateral trade between Maharashtra and Sri Lanka and assured his fullest cooperation for the same highlighting the potentials.
All the participants expressed their willingness to establish connections with Sri Lankan chambers and shared the growth areas and new opportunities shared by the Actg. Consul General among their membership.
Following the event, the Mission received a positive response from the participated chambers expressing interest in organizing a business delegation to Sri Lanka.
