Sri Lankan Embassy in Cairo hosts an Iftar gathering

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Cairo hosted an Iftar gathering for members of the Sri Lankan community in Egypt on 27 February 2026 at the Embassy premises, in observance of the holy month of Ramadan.

The event commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Moulavi Ash Sheikh Muhammad Hussain Junaid, followed by a Qaseeda performance by Sri Lankan children. Moulavi Ash Sheikh Muhammad Zuhair highlighted the importance of fasting, reflection, and devotion among Muslim faithful during the month of Ramadan.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Sisira Senavirathne underscored the significance of Iftar as a time of forgiveness, gratitude, compassion, and generosity, while reinforcing communal bonds and unity by bringing together families, friends, and communities. He emphasized the importance of hosting the Iftar event at the Embassy during the holy month of Ramadan with the participation of the Sri Lankan community, representing a multi-religious and multicultural society, thereby reflecting the true spirit of Ramadan. He furthered that the Iftar gathering serves as a key community outreach initiative to strengthen unity, solidarity, and a sense of togetherness among Sri Lankans in Egypt.

The Iftar gathering was organized after several years of interval in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Association in Egypt, with special support from the Sri Lankan Bohra Muslim community in Egypt, reflecting a strong sense of unity and collective spirit within the community.
