Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner Calls on Apostolic Nuncio to Pakistan

On 16 January 2026, the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Pakistan, Rear Admiral (Rtd.) Fred Senevirathne, paid a courtesy call on the Apostolic Nuncio (Ambassador) of the Holy See to Pakistan, Archbishop Germano Penemote.

During the meeting, the High Commissioner briefed the Apostolic Nuncio on the latest political developments in Sri Lanka under the leadership of H.E. the President, highlighting the Government’s initiatives to strengthen social cohesion among Sri Lanka’s diverse communities, who continue to live in harmony with mutual respect.

He also shared insights on the challenges faced by Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the Ditwah cyclone, emphasizing the invaluable support extended by the international community towards the country’s recovery and reconstruction efforts.

The Apostolic Nuncio commended Sri Lanka’s resilience and determination in overcoming adversity, and expressed his appreciation for the long-standing cooperation between the Holy See and Sri Lanka. He recalled his close engagements with His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, underscoring the depth of these ties.

The High Commissioner was accompanied by the Minister, A. Christy Ruban, and the Minister Counsellor, Chathurika Sankapali, of the High Commission.
