The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jordan successfully hosted a tea promotional event under the theme ‘Ceylon High Tea’ at the Olive Tree Hotel on 23 September 2023. This initiative was part of the Embassy’s ongoing trade and tourism promotion initiatives.
The main goal of the event was to enhance the international recognition of Ceylon Tea, while providing guests with the chance to enjoy a premium selection of teas paired with authentic Sri Lankan snacks, biscuits, and delicacies.
The ‘Ceylon High Tea’ event drew a distinguished gathering that included members of the diplomatic corps, representatives from chambers of commerce, prominent tea traders, key business figures in the tea industry, exporters, and members of the Jordanian media.
In her welcome address, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, J.A.D.S. Priyangika Wijegunasekara, underscored the esteemed global standing of Ceylon Tea, portraying it as a hallmark of quality, cultural heritage, and national pride. She further elaborated on the seven distinct regional varieties of Ceylon Tea, highlighting their exceptional diversity in flavor, aroma, strength, and color—attributes that set them apart from teas of any other origin.
Guests had the opportunity to explore a diverse selection of Ceylon Teas, featuring regional specialties, flavored blends, and refreshing iced teas. Complementing the tasting experience, a curated display of tea packs from the Sri Lanka Tea Board and prominent tea companies offered valuable insights into the richness and global stature of Sri Lanka’s tea industry.
To enrich the evening’s atmosphere, guests were treated to engaging tea and tourism promotional videos that highlighted Sri Lanka’s iconic tea traditions, vibrant cultural heritage, and breathtaking landscapes. Adding to the cultural charm, a lively traditional tea-plucking dance was performed by Sri Lankan employees from Classic Apparel, offering an authentic glimpse into the island’s tea-picking legacy.
As a gesture of gratitude, every guest was presented with a gift pack of flavored teas, generously provided by Albina and Hanna Company in Jordan.
The event effectively showcased Sri Lanka’s flagship export, Ceylon Tea, while fostering deeper trade and cultural connections between Sri Lanka and Jordan.
