
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Ethiopia participated at the inaugural photographic exhibition titled “Ethiopia through the Eyes of Diplomats,” which officially opened on 13 June 2025 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Addis Ababa.
This event was co-organized by the Ambassadors of Romania, Brazil, Canada, Morocco, Indonesia, and the United Arab Emirates, alongside the UNESCO Country Representative and the Culture Club, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia. The exhibition is open to the public and will continue until 25 June 2025.
Delivering the keynote address, State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye described the exhibition as a heartfelt tribute from the diplomatic community, many of whom now regard Ethiopia as their second home. “This project is not only about seeing Ethiopia through the eyes of diplomats. It is about seeing Ethiopia through the eyes of friends,” he further stated.
Chief coordinator of the exhibition, Ambassador Julia Pataki of Romania expressed her gratitude for Ethiopia’s enduring hospitality during her statement.
The participating missions included Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Canada, Chile, Congo, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Holy See, Hungary, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Malta, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Romania, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Türkiye, United Kingdom, United States of America, the European Union, and UNESCO.
The noticeable feature of the event was selection of three photographs submitted by the Sri Lankan Embassy for the exhibition by a distinguished panel of judges: Aron Simeneh, Mekbib Tadesse, and Ikram Ngadi. The images —captured Ethiopia’s beauty, spirit, and diversity, as experienced through the lens of Sri Lankan diplomats.
