The Embassy of Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau organized a dance performance by the Channa Upuli Dance Academy at Vällingby Theatre on 24th September at 18.30 hrs. HE Ambassador Mrs Damayanthie Rajapakse made the welcome speech at the inauguration of the event.

The Diplomatic Community in Sweden, and a large number of Swedish nationals comprising of travel agents, travel writers, professionals and businessmen, potential visitors to Sri Lanka were invited and they were present on the occasion.   The performance was much appreciated by the Sri Lankan Community living in Sweden. Sri Lankan children residing in Sweden presented the National Anthems of Sri Lanka and Sweden.

The ‘Channa Upuli Dance Troupe’ kept the audience spellbound with their truly inspirational performance of traditional Sri Lankan dancing that was unique to a European audience.  The dance troupe also performed at the TUR Travel Fair held in Stockholm, from 26th to 27th September 2015.

A resounding dance performance accompanied by Tamil songs conducted by the Bharatha Kala Kendra, Stockholm further emphasised the multiculturalism that is cherished in the country.

A documentary on Sri Lanka was also screened at the programme, highlighting Sri Lanka as a travel destination as well as the benefits to consider Sri Lanka as a country to conduct businesses and attract investment.

The three pronged approach of this event was to promote Sri Lanka as a tourist destination in Sweden, forge further cooperation between Sri Lanka and Sweden and to build a closer rapport among the Sri Lankan Diaspora living in Sweden.  The programme also succeeded in generating curiosity and much interest among Swedish and other foreign nationals about Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan food items served with a cup of Ceylon Tea for the invitees helped create the atmosphere of a truly Sri Lankan ambience for the evening of 24th September 2015 at the Vällingby Theatre in Stockholm.
