Sri Lanka Embassy in Bahrain conducts a free Medical Camp for Sri Lankan migrant workers

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bahrain in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Engineering Society (SLES) and the American Mission Hospital organized a free Medical Camp and Clinic at the Embassy premises on 17 June 2022, expanding the scope of welfare activities to further heights. Over 200 Sri Lankan expatriates and migrant workers together with their family members benefitted from a range of medical and clinical services (ophthalmological consultations, eye tests, dental care and consultations, basic medical and preventive health care checkups) provided by a specialist medical and clinical team from the prestigious American Mission Hospital in Bahrain.

Delivering the opening remarks, the President of the SLES highlighted the significance of the free Health Camp as one of society’s key social activities for the Sri Lankan community and stressed the importance of the Camp taking place under the auspices of the Sri Lankan Embassy. Further, the President of SLES went on to highlight the long-standing collaboration between the Society, the Sri Lankan Embassy, and the American Mission Hospital which paved the way for the smooth organization of the Medical Camp even after a long absence necessitated by COIVD 19 pandemic related restrictions.

Director of Nursing at the American Mission Hospital Elizabeth De Bod thanked the Embassy and the SLES for taking the initiative to organize the Medical Camp and for the opportunity to give back to the community in need of medical services and attention.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Pradeepa Saram drew the attention of the participants to the noble objective of the event which is to serve the migrant workers and the community, in particular those who do not have access to medical services and knowledge about the diseases they are suffering from. She invited the community to utilize the opportunity to the maximum while extending gratitude to the SLES for lending their support to organize the free Medical Camp and the American Mission Hospital as part of their CSR activities.

This is the fifth occasion that a free Medical Camp has been organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in association with SLES as part of the community outreach events benefitting the Sri Lankan expatriates and migrant workers.
