Participation of Consulate General of Sri Lanka at Celebration of International Tea Day at the Press Conference of 2021 China (Guangzhou) International Tea Expo and tea Savouring

On the invitation of the organizers of the China(Guangzhou) Tea Exposition 2021, the Consul General of Sri Lanka in Guangzhou participated at the the China Press Conference of  2021 China (Guangzhou) International Tea Expo and Tea Savouring for the second International Tea Day, held on 21 May 2021, at the Grand Tea Mall, in Guangzhou and delivered a speech.

There were approximately 100 attendees from tea related associations, companies, and media, including representatives from the Consulates General of Laos and Vietnam, who attended the event.

Consul General Dharmasena in her speech spoke about the significance of the observance of the International Tea Day, which gives importance to tea that plays a vital role in rural development, poverty eradication and food security in developing countries.  She said that China is an attractive market for ‘Ceylon tea’ that need to be studied further to penetrate and also reach the younger generation with diverse taste- buds willing to try different types of tea and new products using tea.’ She enticed ‘to consider ‘Ceylon tea’ as a health choice for anyone to think of, if well-being is what one is looking for’

At the end of the speech, a video on’ Ceylon tea’ produced by the Sri Lanka Tea Board, for the occasion of the International Tea Day was played to the audience.

On the sidelines of the Conference, Consul General Dharmasena spoke with Vice President of Guangdong Tea Profession Association Zhang Liming, who agreed to meet in the near future, to discuss on cooperation in the field of tea.

Vice President of Guangdong Tea Profession Association Zhang Liming, also gave a speech on the development of tea industry, production, imports and exports of tea in Guangdong Province. Several other speakers also delivered speeches relating to the upcoming tea exposition at the end of May.
