Embassy of Sri Lanka in Yangon Commemorates Vesak Day 2022

Commemoration of Vesak Day 2022 was organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Yangon, Myanmar on Sunday, 15 May 2022.  Ven. Bandarawela Wimalawansha Thero, a highly respected Sri Lankan Buddhist Bhikku on meditation in Myanmar was invited to grace the occasion.

A series of Buddhist events including Bodhi pooja, Dhamma Deshana and alms giving were included in the celebrations and the temple inside the Embassy premises and the Chancery area were colourfully decorated with Buddhist flags, vesak lanterns, lamps and lights.

The Sri Lankan community in Myanmar was invited to join the event and a reception was hosted by Sri Lanka's newly appointed Ambassador-designate to Myanmar Janaka Priyantha Bandara, marking his first community meeting.

Addressing the gathering, the Ambassador-designate welcomed the Sri Lankan community and appreciated their continuous support and cooperation towards the Embassy in sustaining plans and programmes in order to strengthening the existing friendly ties between Sri Lanka and Myanmar.

A hopper Dansala was also organized and enjoyed by the gathering.
