Embassy continues to strengthen the ties between Sri Lankan and Russian schools

In the framework of Embassy initiative to forge strong links between Sri Lankan and Russian schools, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Moscow conducted a virtual meeting between the Ministry of Education of Sri Lanka, Governors of the Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces and the Director of Moscow School No. 1250 and their staff.

The meeting was chaired by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation Prof. M. D. Lamawansa. The Ambassador Lamawansa appreciated the efforts of all sides to bring the cultures of Sri Lanka and Russia closer to each other through student-to-student, teacher-to-teacher and language cooperation.

The Governor of the Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, and the Governor of the Central Province of Sri Lanka Lalith Gamage assured that they would provide all the necessary legal and administrative support to this project.

The Ministry of Education of Sri Lanka represented by the Director of Department of English and Foreign Languages B.M.Weerasuriya highlighted the importance of introducing new languages to the syllabus of Sri Lankan schools and also pledged to provide the required support to the initiative from the Ministry side.

Director of Moscow School No. 1250 Vasily Murzak extended gratitude to Ambassador Lamawansa and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow for organizing a lantern-making workshop, which was held for the pupils of the school as a part of Vesak celebrations, and expressed readiness to formalize the collaboration with a profound document.

Two students from boys’ and girls’ schools of the Central Province of Sri Lanka, who were selected to participate in the programme, also made short and touching speeches on their attitude to Russian language and desire to learn more about the Russian culture.

The two sides agreed to establish a working group from all parties consisting of the Director, Department of English and Foreign Languages B.M. Weerasuriya, First Secretary of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia Nirosha K. Herath, Director of Education; English, Foreign Languages & E Learning, Department of Education, Kandy Chamari Andarage, Provincial Coordinator of English and Foreign Languages, Sabaragamuwa Province Amali Wickramasinghe and Vice Director of the Moscow School No. 1250 Elena Sharkadi. The aim of the working group would be to synchronize the roadmaps created by all parties and to follow up on the efforts to sign a MoU in this regard.
