New Delhi, Oct 20, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister in Asia, Pacific and Commonwealth Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour, who is in Sri Lanka, met with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister on Monday.

 

Rahimpour is to discuss development of cooperation and bilateral ties as well as increasing engineering services with Sri Lankan officials.

In the meeting with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Gamini Lakshman Peiris, Rahimpour, by referring to positive approach of politico-economic relations between the two countries in the past three decades, said he hoped to witness more development in bilateral cooperation in the future.

Referring to historical and cultural commonalities as two Asian countries in the region, Rahimpour expressed Iran's readiness to increase political interactions in order to expand cooperation in international and regional levels.

Peiris, for his part, underlined friendly and growing relations between the two states and welcomed increased engineering and technical services of Iran and expressed hope that developing projects could be implemented in Sri Lanka by Iranian companies.

Currently, two Iranian companies are working on two important projects of dam construction and rural electricity in Sri Lanka.

Rahimpour also met with Sri Lankan Central Bank governor, deputy minister of Finance and Planning and deputy Foreign Minister on Monday.

In the meeting with Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal, the two sides discussed expansion of cooperation in monetary, banking and finance fields in order to facilitate implementation of developing plans in Sri Lanka by Iranian companies.

Rahimpour, in a meeting with his Sri Lankan counterpart Mrs. Kshenuka Senewiratne, reviewed international and regional developments and considered ways of expanding bilateral relations.

Mrs. Kshenuka, for her part, called mutual ties special and underlined taking common stances by developing countries on regional and international issues, like human rights and dual behavior of the west.

She expressed hope that the two countries strengthen their mutual cooperation.

Rahimpour is to meet with Sri Lankan Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa and Minister of Commerce and Industry Rashad Badiouddin.
