Director General of Chongqing Foreign Affairs Office Zhang Yongwu invites Sri Lanka to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s Forum on Digital Economy Industry

The Director General of Chongqing Foreign Affairs Office of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government Zhang Yongwu called on Ambassador of Sri Lanka to China Dr. Palitha Kohona on 30 July, 2021 at the Embassy. Director General Zhang expressed his gratitude to the Sri Lankan Embassy in China for the long-standing collaboration with the Chongqing Municipal government.

Director General Zhang recalled the meeting that he had with the Ambassador Kohona following the opening ceremony of the Poverty Alleviation and Cooperative Development Centre for South Asia at the South West University in Chongqing last month. He reiterated that China will cooperate with Sri Lanka in its efforts to alleviate poverty.

Director General Zhang discussed with the Ambassador Kohona the details of the forthcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s Forum on Digital Economy Industry and its benefits.  The Forum is scheduled to be held from 24 -26 August 2021. He invited the Embassy to establish a national pavilion of Sri Lanka at the exhibition.

Ambassador Kohona expressed his gratitude to the Chongqing Municipal government for setting up the poverty alleviation Centre. He said that Sri Lanka wishes to collaborate with the centre and will benefit from the expertise that China gained from the alleviation of absolute poverty. He further said that Sri Lanka targets to achieve the poverty alleviation goal within or before the time frame set by SDGs.

Ambassador Kohona welcomed the initiative of organising the digital industry forum. He assured Sri Lanka’s fullest support and participation. He said that the entrepreneurs in the fields of Digital Economy Industry in Sri Lanka will be invited to showcase their innovative and creative products. He hoped that Sri Lanka digital industries will use this opportunity to enter the lucrative Chinese market.
