Consul General of Sri Lanka in Toronto Thushara Rodrigo joined the Sri Lankan Muslim Community in Canada as the guest of honour to celebrate the Islamic History Month of Canada 2023, held in Toronto recently, at the invitation extended by United Sri Lankan Muslim Council of Canada.
It was one of the annual celebrations of the Sri Lankan Muslim community in Canada which reflected the unity, prosperity and the strength of the community. There were 22 Sri Lankan Muslim community associations at the celebration representing the Sri Lankan Muslims living across Canada. The event was organized by the United Sri Lankan Muslim Council of Canada (USLMCC), an umbrella organization of the Sri Lankan Muslims in Canada. A number of Provincial Parliamentarians of Ontario province, scholars, leading businessmen and professionals attended the celebration.
While extending the best wishes for the celebration, the Consul General emphasized the importance of valued principles and practices of Islam to make a better world.
The Consul General appreciated the constructive role and the continued support of the Sri Lankan Canadian Muslim Community for the current economic recovery efforts and reconciliation process in Sri Lanka. He further stated that the economic prosperity of the Sri Lankan Muslims in Canada will foster Canada - Sri Lanka economic engagements further.
The USLMCC recognized the collective efforts of twenty-two other Sri Lankan Muslim associations to promote the wellbeing of the community.
The Consul General commended the USLMCC for working hand in hand with other Sri Lankan community associations in Canada to strengthen a common identity as the “Sri Lankan Canadian Community” while retaining the unique roots of Sri Lankan Muslims and adhering to the principles, values and practices of Islam.
