Ambassador Waruna Wilpatha presents Credentials to the President of the State of Israel

The newly appointed Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the State of Israel, Waruna Wilpatha presented his Letter of Credence to President of the State of Israel Reuven Rivlin on 21 November 2019 at the Beit HaNassi (President’s House) in Jerusalem, Israel.

The ceremony entailed the presentation of credentials followed by a Guard of Honour and playing of National Anthem of Sri Lanka.  While warmly welcoming the Ambassador, President Rivlin wished him success in his assignment in Israel.  The President of Israel also conveyed his warmest wishes to the new President of Sri Lanka.  He recalled the cordial bilateral relations between Israel and Sri Lanka and highlighted the importance of furthering close cooperation in the areas of mutual interests.

Ambassador Wilpatha conveyed warm greetings from the President of Sri Lanka and expressed his keen interest on further enhancing the friendly relations and close cooperation between the two countries during his tenure in Israel.

Waruna Wilpatha is a career Foreign Service officer since 1998 and served as the Director General of Human Resources and Mission Management of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately prior to his assignment as the Ambassador to Israel.  In his diplomatic career, Ambassador Wilpatha has served in various capacities at Sri Lanka Missions in Moscow, Berlin, Havana and Ottawa as well as in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Wilpatha is a graduate of the University of Colombo.
