73rd National Independence Day Celebrations of Sri Lanka in Malaysia

Sri Lanka High Commission in Malaysia celebrated the 73rd Anniversary of Sri Lanka’s Independence at the High Commission on 4 February 2021, with the Mission Staff due to the prevailing Movement Control Order (MCO) which unfortunately prevented the participation of Sri Lankan community living in Malaysia and the well-wishers in the Ceremony.  The event commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag and the singing of the National Anthem followed by observance of  two minutes silence in honour of all those  who sacrificed their lives in defence of the Motherland.  Reading of Independence Day messages of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Foreign Minister  Dinesh Gunawardena, by High Commissioner Air Chief Marshal Kapila Veedhiya Bandara Jayampathy, Mohd Arafa Mohd Akeel and , First Secretary Bhagya Abeykoon.

Due to the Prevailing Covid-19 situation in Malaysia and the restrictions imposed by the Government of Malaysia, the Mission resorted in pushing out an e-souvenir to mark the Celebration of 73rd Independence Day of Sri Lanka.

The programme ended with the serving of refreshments including kiribath and traditional sweet meats.
