Hon. Deputy Minister of External Affairs, Neomal Perera, M.P., meets Cabinet Director of the French Foreign Ministry

On Thursday, October 18 th , 2012, Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of External Affairs, Neomal Perera, MP, called on Mr. Denis Pietton, Cabinet Director of the French Foreign Ministry.

During the meeting, Director Pietton said that bilateral relations between France and Sri Lanka were progressing positively. Acknowledging the economic ties between the two countries, Deputy Minister Perera emphasized that Sri Lanka has just started to heal from thirty years of war and the challenge is now “ to give back the lost opportunities to the people ”. While praising President Rajapaks a for ending the thirty years war by defeating terrorism which has consumed many leaders of the opposition UNP, Chief Opposition Whip John Amaratunga, MP, stated that his party supports the LLRC report and its implementation.

Director Pietton was accompanied by Ms. Véronique Roger-Lacan (Chief of the Asian Pacific Cell and Deputy Director for South Asia/French Foreign Ministry) and Mr. Julien Kita (Desk Officer/India).

Also present during the meeting were: H.E. Ambassador Dayan Jayatilleka, Mr. Ahamed Razee (Second Secretary/Embassy of Sri Lanka in France) and Ms. Kamaya Jayatissa (Research and Information Officer/Embassy of Sri Lanka in France) .

Earlier in the day, Deputy Minister Neomal Perera paid a visit to the Sri Lankan Embassy in Paris. Addressing the Mission, he highlighted that the Sri Lankan Diaspora in France, comprising both the Tamil and the Sinhalese Diaporas, should be taken as an asset, as an advantage for Sri Lanka. “ We have to work for the future generations, for our children. ” he said. Following his remarks, Deputy Minister Perera had an interactive discussion with the Embassy staff.
