KUWAIT APPRECIATES PRESIDENT RAJAPAKSA’S ROLE IN ACD
Sheik Sabah Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait expressed appreciation of the contribution made by Sri Lanka, with particular reference to remarks by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to strengthening the Asia Co-operation Dialogue.
Minister G L Peiris briefed him about Sri Lanka’s initiatives, to ensure the equitable distribution of the benefits of economic development in a situation where the country’s economy is growing at more than 8%. He pointed out that Sri Lanka’s priorities with regard to making the country self-sufficient in respect of staple food items, ready access to education and healthcare, and training opportunities in the rural hinterland leading to a higher threshold of incomes and better livelihoods, are very much in line with ACD’s aims and objectives.
The two Foreign Ministers discussed modalities for organising the programmes of ACD in the coming year to ensure a greater emphasis on practical projects which would entail tangible benefits for the 34 countries engaged in the Asia Co-operation Dialogue.
